Church History

Eveleth has been home to a variety of faith communities, including Methodists, Episcopalians, Presbyterians, Lutherans, Catholics, Baptists, Jews, and nondenominational Christians. Today, Eveleth has five active congregations: one Catholic, one Episcopal, one Lutheran, and two nondenominational.

In 1942, the church was renamed Concordia Lutheran Church, and the first services in English were conducted the following year. The congregation merged with First Lutheran in 1968 to form Christ Lutheran Church. After another merger with Lutheran churches in Gilbert and Sparta, the congregation became known as United in Christ. A new church opened on the site of the former Von's Drive-In (kitty-corner from Fayal Pond off of Highway 53) in 2005. The old building is now occupied by the Iron Range campus of the Vineyard Church.

This church was dedicated in 1904. The old church, dedicated in March 1896 in Old Town, is visible in the rear. It was replaced with a new structure in 1915, and another new building was dedicated in 1951. Today, the former United Methodist Church is home to Woodlands Bible Church.
